Guest Work Agency Advises Blockchain.art: An NFT Platform Designed for the Art World

Guest Work Agency Director and Founder Alana Kushnir has advised Blockchain.art (BCA), the first NFT marketplace designed and built specifically for the needs of the 21st century art world.

BCA allows galleries, museums, artists, and collectors to list, buy, sell, and manage digital artworks using NFT technology. BCA's platform is being built with the next-generation technology of the Polkadot Network blockchain ecosystem. Users will also be able to buy and sell NFT’s on the BCA marketplace using regular (or "fiat") currency using the Stripe payment platform.

Guest Work Agency provided advice on establishing best practice standards for BCA, including analysing how existing platforms communicate terms of use with their users, mapping the scope of copyright licensing rights for platforms and NFT purchases and comparing fee structures and royalty payment processes. Alana worked closely with BCA Founder Christina Steinbrecher-Pfandt and Chief Operations Officer Renger Van Den Heuvel on developing a set of best practice standards to better support galleries, artists and collectors entering the NFT market.

In a recent Artnet News interview, Founder of BCA Christina Steinbrecher-Pfandt - who is an art world veteran and co-founder of the Vienna Contemporary art fair - said that BCA “empowers its art market partners to sell more digital art and strengthen their online presence, securely and sustainably, while growing their collector base.”

BCA has recently attracted funding from James Murdoch's Lupa Systems and Betaworks, enabling the startup to launch the first phase of its beta launch. The CEO of Betaworkds John Borthwick told Artnet News that the technology being developed by BCA “solves a major challenge for the art world by making it easy for all players to embrace NFTs without needing to ‘speak blockchain.’”

Alana Kushnir commented on Guest Work Agency's involvement in BCA: "It's been exciting to be involved in a tech start-up that's transforming the way that art industry players are buying and selling digital art”.

Guest Work Agency is a boutique art law and advisory firm based in Melbourne, but international in reach. It is the first dedicated art law practice in Australia, working with artists, collectors, galleries, arts organisations, art fairs and art tech start-ups.
