Guest Work Agency (GWA) has advised Sri Lankan Australian artist Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran on the legal aspects of his first major monograph, published by Thames & Hudson.

GWA director and founder Alana Kushnir advised Ramesh on all legal aspects of the publishing agreement, including the licensing of images and written contributions, as well as the editioning of a bronze sculpture to accompany a special limited edition version of the monograph.

As described by publisher Thames & Hudson, Ramesh is considered to be one of Australia’s most prominent and sought-after contemporary artists and his “exuberant ceramic idols and installations gleam with vivid impossible-to-ignore immediacy, provoking and stimulating audiences as he explores the politics of sex, gender and religion.”

Alana congratulated Ramesh on his publishing deal: “We are so pleased to have worked with Ramesh on such an important milestone in his art career. The monograph will allow a new audience to experience his boundary-pushing paintings and sculptures.”

Alana added: “Publishing agreements involve many legal considerations. We always encourage artists to reach out to a specialist art lawyer when you are entering into a commercial agreement of any kind. An art lawyer can help you map out the relationships of the different parties involved, set the terms of the arrangement and advise you on how to protect your intellectual property”.

A special limited edition of 100 copies of the book, titled ‘Ramesh’, has also been released, signed by the artist and including a limited edition bronze sculpture titled 'Double-sided Bronze Figure'.
